2026 PV Race Canceled
Posted February 24, 2026

Puerto Vallarta is currently experiencing an evolving, unstable, and unpredictable security situation. The U.S. State Department has elevated the travel advisory level to Level 3 – “Reconsider Travel” and has advised U.S. citizens to shelter in place in the state of Jalisco. Additionally, authorities have reported ongoing transportation disruptions, including curtailment of operations on certain toll roads and road blockages affecting travel access to and from Puerto Vallarta.

The safety of the sailors, support crew, staff, and boats are of utmost importance. Taking into consideration all the information available at this time, the San Diego Yacht Club Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 San Diego to Puerto Vallarta International Yacht Race.

While we are disappointed to cancel, we intend to offer alternate racing on Friday, February 27, Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1. In addition, we plan to host social events, including the traditional send-off party on Thursday, February 26. A full schedule will be posted on Wednesday, February 25.

Countdown to the 38th Biennial San Diego to Puerto Vallarta Race
Posted January 08, 2026

With less than 50 days until sailors push off the docks of San Diego Yacht Club and head south for the sunny skies of Puerto Vallarta, SDYC is putting the finishing touches on what is sure to be an exciting multi-day offshore race of the 2026 season. 26 boats from across the United States, including California, Nevada, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Washington, as well as Australia are registered to compete in the biennial regatta which starts February 26.

Given the margaritas, mariachi bands, and warm welcome of Mainland Mexico waiting for sailors at the end of the race, the 2026 Puerto Vallarta Race tends to be a favorite for many offshore racers from across the country. SDYC’s Commodore Alli Bell echoes this sentiment stating, “This biennial race is a favorite for good reason; 1,000 miles of champagne sailing to arrive to a warm welcome down in PV. It’s always a privilege to work with our friends in Mexico to put on a great party for arriving sailors. I look forward to seeing many of you down there!”
